For most people gaming is an enjoyable hobby and a way to spend time with friends. But for some it can become more than that.
They might experience significant impairment in their daily lives as a consequence of their excessive gaming.
The studies have reported
the prevalence of disordered
gamers at 4-11%.
(Lemmens et al., 2015; Grüsser et al., 2007)
'Gaming disorder' is not a problem. It's a symptom of a much larger problem.
Gaming disorder – a pattern of gaming behavior ("digital-gaming" or "video-gaming") characterized by impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.

On average, 11-64 year old American players spend 12 hours per week playing games.

UK players spend 10.3 hours per week playing games.

GD prevalence rates in UK are 14.6% (Lopez-Fernandez, Honrubia-Serrano, Baguley, & Griffiths, 2014).

Australian players spend 88 minutes a day playing games.

China's prevalence rates are ranging from 3.5% to 17% (Long et al., 2018).
People addicted to video games often experience physical, emotional, social & family problems.

Video game addiction has been linked with depression, loneliness, anxiety and anger.
